Program Note: II and III are inspired by the fascinating twang and swish of mechanical art mounted on a wall that captivated me.
Dedicated to guitarist Gregg Nestor of Villa di Fontani, this Suite for Two Guitars is inspired by the foliage and pond as we enter the grounds and by the fascinating mechanical art on the walls inside. The approach is like an enticing Serenade. The first artwork we see, called Radiance, whirrs and whirls and then stops suddenly while it chimes ponderously. Around the corner, the piece called Mechanical Art dominates the wall, its stiff, start and stop random-like motions and twangy sounds fascinate and command our attention. –D.N.Price
Villa di Fontani is named for the Spanish-style home of guitarist, Gregg Nestor, with its many pools and Roman fountains. “Serenade” is inspired by the foliage and large pool as we enter the grounds. “Mechanical Art” hangs on the east wall stiffly starting and stopping randomly with twangy sounds controlled by balanced mechanical pulleys. “Radiance” refers to artwork on the north wall that whirrs and whirls and then stops suddenly while it chimes ponderously.
